I purchased the Dragonfly observatory controller when I bought the observatory (along with the dome rotator, shutter motor, rain sensor, and cloudwatcher). Since you can control the observatory through software, I was wondering if I really need the Dragonfly controller. Or, do I need a place for everything to connect to and then use software to do the controlling, such as SGP. N.I.N.A, XSky, etc.

I really didn’t know what I needed for automation but learned after buying it that I probably didn’t need it.
The rotator kit and shutter kit take care of the dome control (rotation, opening, closing. rain detection if you have the rain sensor) and interface with your astronomy control software (TheSkyX, SGP, .... ).
The dragonFly can be use for other type of automation.. power control, more sensor, network access to some of the sensor... so it totally depend on what else you need to automate.
This should give you more idea of what it can do :

What did you have in mind when you bought the DragonFly ?
