So I am looking to get a personal observatory, but I can't see the trees because of the forest. I send them an e-mail asking what do I need to buy to automate it. Well that is about 4 months ago and I never got a reply, so I am asking here. What do I need to automate it fully, rain, wind sensor auto-rotation everything.
Thanks for your help.
I bought pretty much everything that they had a year ago. You need the dome rotation kit and you need the kit for the shutter. You wll probably also want the rain/cloud detector which will shut everything down in case of rain or cloud cover. That should take care of the dome. Next, you will need to automate your telescope system and that process is brand-specific. I have a Celestron 8SE GoTo system so I purchased the WiFi adapter. Finally, you need to select the ASCOM compliant software to control the entire system a and that can. Or worms you have to figure out yourself, For instance, I have a camera, focused, filter wheel, etc, — everything must be programmed. Start simple. First get the dome automation working. Then add just the telescope and get that working. Your choice of software will determine how you get things working together.
Good luck.
